Jomel is a multidisciplinary artist and designer working across installation, sculpture, performance and drawing. With an interest in deriving visual material from contemporary image culture, she translates them into a visual language of her own. She explores themes of victimhood, resurrection and individuation by situating them in both historical context as well as current technological condition. Her practice utilises methods of inversion, non-linearity and cognitive tensions between opposites. Through a process of “remixing” gathered material, her work challenges viewers to reflect on the values embedded in narratives that permeate contemporary, Western society.
